As one of the top touristic destinations, Barcelona has a lot of things to offer, independently of the season. You will allways have good fun, but not doing the same activities or going to the same places. Each season has its pros and cons. We will give you a little hint on what to do during each season, and you decide when you come and visit us.

As an introduction, we want to expose the average weather in Barcelona. A strong point is that temperatures are regular and winter is not really cold (with the lowest averages at 10º).

We will now explain you the things that are ongoing in Barcelona during the different seasons:

1. SPRING

Spring is when the tourism starts to flow to the city and alters a bit its character. The coming of the sun and good weather makes that Barcelona shifts from inside activities to outside activities (such as street markets, sport events or music festivals). During spring, some important events take place into the city:
– Immerse in Barcelona’s streets during Sant Jordi (23/04) 
During April, Barcelona disguises for one of its most folkloric moments of all year, Sant Jordi (Sant George). According to the legend, a prince rescued a princess by killing a dragon, from its blood, a rose formed and the prince gave it to the princess as a present. Since then, it is tradition to buy a rose for the ladies and a book for the gentlemen, although most of the times, the ladies get a rose AND a book. The whole city lives a literary revolution, as many famous authors are willing to appear and sign their books in public places. It is a strong nationalist day of Catalonia, besides 11^th of September.

– Attend the F1 Grand Prix (11-13/05)
A great chance to see the world’s fastest cars in action at Montmeló; just 20 min outside Barcelona, at the Grand Prix de Catalunya. In 2012, Alonso qualified 2^nd for the delight of Spanish fans.

– Primavera sound (End of May) 
As good weather appears, so does the good music! Barcelona has plenty of music festivals during spring, being the Primavera Sound the most famous one. Don’t miss the chance to see your favourite groups in an unmatchable environment. The whole city puts its energy into the festivals!

– FC Barcelona Games 
Spring is the best time to visit the FC Barcelona Studium and attending one of its games. Not only the weather is better, but also is the start of the decisive and final games in some competitions. Also you’ll have more variety to choose (Copa Del Rey, League, and Champions League). The CampNou gets filled up as the fans want to see live action!

2. SUMMER

– Sun & beach 

One of the best landscapes of Barcelona is its beaches. You have plenty of coast to enjoy and also 10 beaches in where you will be able to sunbath and refresh yourself after a cultural visit! Also, there are plenty of bars with terraces on the coastline where you can have a sip or a bite.

– Annual Parties (Festa Major de Gracia) 
Summer is the time where the quarters celebrate their annual parties and parades. The most known in Barcelona is les Festes Majors de Gràcia, where the whole quarter competes to decorate their street, and awards are given. This is truly, a magic moment, as the decoration is made by hand by the neighbours of each street.

– Sonar (end of June) 
Long ago it was known by being one of the best electronic music festivals in Europe, but has evolved into an all-kind of music festival where different profiles merge. Having at their disposal a large convention hall just for the gigs makes it a nice scenario where to see your idols!

– Sant Joan (23^rd June)
The equivalent to Guy Fawkes’ night, celebrates the shortest night in the summer. Get the powder ready and enjoy the show of the fireworks in the street. Everyone will be enjoying the night, so you must join as well! There is a special pastry for the night called Coca de Sant Joan.

3. AUTUMN

Autumn is relative in Barcelona. Although the temperatures go down a bit, until mid-October you can have summer-like weather (with some rainy days). A great advantage is that you can have better deals and better service than in high season. Autumn is one of the best times to visit the city. Summer-like weather + cheaper deals + less queues = great holidays!

– Annual party La Mercè (24/09)
The annual celebration of Barcelona is held every year on the 24^th of September. Santa Mercè, patroness of Barcelona, immerses the city into a great party for usually three days. All around the city you can find cultural activities, concerts, special deals on museums and plenty of fun. It is a great chance to see the Major Party of the city! Activities held from folklore Castellers (left) to a musical show with fireworks to close the festivity (right).

– Jazz international Festival (30/10-30/11)
Barcelona welcomes the Jazz in autumn. Having a full month with plenty of concerts, the musical scene gets the spotlight during November. This last year edition accounted famous musicians such as Chick Corea.

4. WINTER

The main inconvenient is the cold, as you won’t go to the beach, but there are also a lot of advantages of visiting Barcelona in winter. First of all, you will be able to enjoy low season rates in our apartment rent, but also you will be able to avoid the long lasting queues and crowds in the city’s most important monuments and museums (no queue on La Sagrada Familia or La Pedrera, while in summer it can be up to 3 hours of queue).
Also, the number of tourist decreases in winter and the few who come see Barcelona get the chance of get a better, more personalized service at a lower price. Also it is the authentic experience of Barcelona, as most of the tourists pack the city in summer.
As Christmas comes near, during winter you will be able to see things that the city does not do again during the season:
– Enjoy the ski stations close to Barcelona
Although Barcelona is known more for its hot weather and beaches, Catalonia has a lot of ski offers for those who decide to come over in winter! Ski stations as La Molina or Masella are as close as 90km to Barcelona, so you can escape easily and return at night to enjoy the city while skiing during the day.

– Stay in New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve is a tradition all around the globe. Come and enjoy the fraternity while eating 12 grapes while drinking cava and enjoy the best parties later on to welcome the year!
– Explore the Shopping Night
At the end of November, Barcelona decides to give a new look to the city. Together with the set-up of Christmas lights, there is one weekend where shops are open until late at night, with some of them even putting catwalks on the street. It is a great chance to see the ambience of emblematic streets during the Shopping Night.
– Ice skate in Plaza Catalunya
Also, during winter, there is an Ice skate rink installed in Plaza Catalunya, just at the heart of the city. It is a recent idea established 2 years ago, but the massive success has made this a Christmas must in town.
– Get lit up by Christmas lights
When Christmas comes, the whole Barcelona is lit up by Christmas lights, and every area has proper Christmas lights. The city centre is full of presents, the Paral.lel (area full of theatres) is decorated with cabaret-like lights, the Carrer de Sants has shoes and the name of the street, and so on!
