A visit to mount Tibidabo


tibidaboBarcelona is delimited by sea at South and by Rivers at East and West; but also at North, we find Mount Tibidabo (part of Collserola mountains), which has served over centuries as the Northern limit of the city. In the Mountain, besides the breathtaking sights of the city, you will also find 4 popular attractions of the city.

1.  Sacred Heart Temple

With a building period that went from 1902 to 1961, this temple welcomes you to Tibidabo. Being the highest temple in Barcelona, its story was of a group of investors that, hearing the rumours that a Hotel-Casino was intended to be made, bought the property and demanded to Enric Sagner to build a temple. At the side, you can also find the Fabra Astronomic Observatory.

2. Tibidabo Theme Park 

Barcelona’s most known theme park ubicated at the top of the mountain can provide you with top entertainment while enjoying beautiful sights of the city. Founded in 1899, stands as the second oldest in Europe. It will be a great idea to bring your kids with you and enjoy the park, but also if you don’t have any, there are attractions for the brave ones (the slogan of the park is “We are all kids”) The trademark of the park is the theme park is the attraction Talaia, that will raise you 50 meters up in the sky, that summed to the 512m of the mountain will give you a sight from Barcelona at 562m up in the sky. It also accounts with L’avió, a plane simulator established in 1912.

3.  Collserola Tower

Also a great sightsee can be seen from the CollserolaTower. You can check timetables and fares at their website http://www.torredecollserola.com/. Desgined by Norman Foster, it was built in 1992 due to the Olympic Games.
Although it is used as an audiovisual receptor and emissor, but lately it has been opened as a wiewpoint, with a space habilitated in the 10th floor. Also, large cocktails and reception parties are taken here by private companies. Don’t miss the chance to see Barcelona and the inner Catalonia with a bird’s eye!

4.  Blue Streetcar 

Ride the history! Although Barcelona has modern streetcars, the blue streetcar runs continuously from 1901. With 1.2 km of travelling distance, it is a funny and traditional way to solve the steep streets that you have to undergo to reach the Tibidabo funicular!
