1. The Night of Sant Joan

This is a very special night in Catalonia that san juantakes place every year on the night of June 23, to celebrate the summer solstice. Friends and families get together for dinner and everyone throw fireworks all night long. There are also music concerts and bonfires at the beach, and the party continues until dawn. The next day is a holiday in Barcelona. Surprisingly quite day.

2. Going to the beach

3. Watch a movie at the movie theater of Montjuic

montjuic theaterDuring the summer, the magnificent fortress of Montjuïc opens its doors and invites people to come, deploy a blanket and watch movies projected on the castle wall. The program begins at 22 h. and there are even jazz concerts before the movie. The season is usually from early July to mid-August.

4. Enjoy a 360º view of Barcelona from Turo de la Rovira

5. Nights at MACBA

On Thursdays and Fridays, the museum is open until midnight at reduced prices. But MACBA is not only known for the museum itself, there is a bohemian atmosphere all around it. Youngsters get together at the square in front of the museum to enjoy the afternoon and skateboard. There are also wonderful bar terraces to have a drink and some tapas, and you can finish with a walk around Rambla del Raval.

6. Parc Horta Labyrinth

horta labyrinthLocated on the former house of the Desvalls family, the Labyrinth park is includes a neoclassical garden of the eighteenth century and romanic garden of the nineteenth century. Its main claim is the labyrinth, in which one of the scenes of “The perfume” was shot. The park can be accessed for free on Wednesdays and Sundays.

7. Go to the “Festa major de Gracia”. – August (15 to 21)

That is what happens in the neighborhood of Gracia during this one week festivity. This year, the dates are from the 15th to 21st of August. Other activities taking place are castellers, correfocs and cultural events.

8. Buying all the ingredients for a homemade gazpacho at La Boquería market

boqueriaGazpacho (a kind of tomato soup) is a tipical Spanish summer dish. It is a fresh and very tasty starter and you will have good fun preparing it. But rather than buying your tomatoes at the supermarket, better go to La Boquería Market, or Mercat de Santa Catarina, to have a 100% local taste of Barcelona.

9. Piknic Electronik

Enjoy a summer afternoon dancing to the sound of electronic music after a nice picnic with your friends. If you have children, don’t worry, there is a large area equipped for families, with workshops and activities for children.

10. The Magic Fountain of Montjuic night show

fountain montjuicDuring the summer, every Thursday to Sunday and from 21:00 to 23:00 hours, the fountain of Montjuic performs a breathtaking music and lights show can be enjoyed completely free. Built for the Universal Exhibition of 1929, the Magic Fountain is the star of the set of waterfalls of the Maria Cristina axis, and one of Barcelona must see attractions. Kids and girlfriends specially love it! 😉
